Chapter Eleven- The Fruit and the Fall

As the sun set in the Garden, Damek felt a chilling shadow settle over everything familiar and change it into a darkness he never experienced before. Where Neveah's love had filled him inside was emptiness and he no longer felt her soft and gentle love surrounding him. He never, in all his iife, felt so alone and deserted. The Serpent had cunningly replaced the Master in Damek’s heart with Neveah and instead of seeking the wisdom of the Master, both Damek and Neveah begin to follow their own desires.

All Damek knew was that Nevaeh's heart no longer belonged to him and it tormented his soul. Now she was the focus of his existence and the Master was secondary, if anything at all. Without the guidance of the Master, they couldn't understand or resolve the emotions that now had them under control. The Dark Master had succeeded in separating them and he waited gleefully, sure that they would succumb to the temtation of the tree and its delightful fruit.

Damek headed in the direction of the tree. There was nothing else he could do. He had to get Neveah back. He couldn’t live with this emptiness in his heart. Just as surely as he knew the moment she had surrendered to the lure of the tree, he knew he would now do the same in his need for her. He had forgotten the Creator, the Master and the joy of the Garden. He would do whatever it took just to have her love again.

Neveah saw him walking toward her in the dusk and they ran together, holding each other against the darkness settling in around them. “You must come with me…”, She whispered. “to the tree before it’s too dark to see our way.” He nodded and followed her mutely. Then it was there in front of him. His stomach felt like a hard rock and pain shot through it to his heart as he reached for the nearest fruit. Her eyes bore into his as he ate.
